Dinosaur'Istres: a journey back to the age of dinosaurs

Embark on a journey through time that takes you millions of years into the past. Curious to discover a world once ruled by giant, surprising creatures long before humans appeared? Don’t miss the dinosaurs waiting for you at Dinosaur’Istres, in the heart of Provence, during your family holiday at our Tikayan campsite Félix de la Bastide. Plan a stop at this park in Castellan, just 50 minutes from Marseille — a palaeontological adventure for kids and adults alike.

On Castellan Hill: a walk through history, science and nature
Set proudly atop Castellan Hill in Istres, Dinosaur’Istres immerses you in a prehistoric world surrounded by Mediterranean flora, beside the Étang de l’Olivier and just steps from the town centre. Open since 2007, the park spans a 3-kilometre trail with educational panels that shed light on the history of dinosaurs. The experience lasts 1.5 to 2 hours and was designed with care and scientific precision, thanks to palaeontologist Stéphane Jouve. The Istres Tourist Office plays a key role in managing and enriching the site.

Face to face with dinosaurs in Provence
Get ready for thrilling encounters with 45 life-sized dinosaur specimens. Start with 4 aquatic dinosaurs that lived 250 million years ago, then meet iconic giants like the Spinosaurus, a 16-metre Diplodocus, and the fearsome Tyrannosaurus Rex. You’ll also spot agile Velociraptors and 11 species that once roamed Provence.

Fun palaeontology: games, treasure hunts and talks
Thanks to the Istres Tourist Office, children can join “1, 2, 3, play palaeontologist!” — a playful activity with booklets that turn the visit into a thrilling investigation. Treasure hunts are available for ages 4+ and 7+. Occasional talks offer holidaymakers the chance to meet experts and deepen their knowledge.
